'Identify'

A music, culture and identity workshop by Ace the Amara.

For Primary School Years: 3 to 6 and High School: 7 to 10

Time: 3 hours

Participants explore complex themes around culture, connection and identity, while finding a voice for their personal experiences and deepening their understanding of and compassion for difference. Basic song writing tools are given to the group, as a vehicle for expressing ideas and emotions. Using themes brought forward in discussion, the group creates its song; specifically lyrics and melody. Each member is given the opportunity to write and record a group chorus, as well as an individual verse. Musicians are also encouraged to bring and record their instruments. The final song is professionally mastered and presented on a packaged CD.

The first 'Identify' workshop was held with Miller Technology High School as a part of Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre public programs.

I am proud to present to you; Susana Makoni, Hayley Houghton and Braydden Elliott with their message:

OUR LOVE FOR OTHER PEOPLE

Here is their song...

Verse 1

Violence in the air

Miller, Bonnyrigg, Fairfield, Campbeltown

We were born there

They're our home towns

Chorus

My family's with me

Our love deep like the ocean

Verse 2

I am in my happy place

When I strum my strings all day

Wondering how things got this way

Kids are out there, they are starving

Nobody wants to know their names

Bridge

I will keep loving you, and I will be here for you

I will keep loving you, and I will be here for you

I will take care of you, endlessly

Chorus

My family's with me

Our love deep like the ocean
